Top Fake News about COVID19 that you need to know!
“The point of modern propaganda isn’t only to misinform or push an agenda. It is to exhaust your critical thinking, to annihilate truth.” — Garry Kasparov
This Statement is much relevant to the existing conditions in our country deprived of the right information. The fakes news which reaches us deviates us from truths and often we forget to develop our sense of scientific temper to differentiate between what is fake and genuine. So How it had affected our lives? How shall we develop a sense of critical thinking which is much demanded in this age?
This year 2020 was expected to be one of the best I ever had, with many plans and resolutions to achieve my goals. From the start itself, there existed a wave of news about a Virus named “Corona” which originated in China. As a Keralite, we were used to such stuff as we moulded ourselves to fit any situation after the great hit of two floods and one “Nipah Virus” epidemic.
But it shocked everyone when the country’s first-ever COVID case was reported first in Kerala. My Cousin brother watching this news on TV, shockingly reverted “Why every hell of a substance reaches Kerala first?” –hearing this, I was too in that emotional state.
Everything was under control as Kerala was self-sufficient in terms of health infrastructure and resources to face such a dilemma, as I told we were trained before.
There comes the very first fake news of the season, which was outdated but people got pranked again.
- Bird Flu & Corona Virus in Broiler Chicken;
That was, in fact, the cut copy version which Kerala faced since the Nipah period. People were threatened and even hesitated to buy chickens which effected the poultry Industry.
The one thing which I appreciated the most was, my cousin bro, he didn’t even believe it. What he did, you know? He searched the content related to the pic which was shared on WhatsApp through Google Reverse Image Search. Finally, he discovered, the pic was taken during a Bird flu which had happened 4 years ago.
Pity thing was that, even if we knew it was fake, we didn’t dare to eat chicken the entire season. That was the After Effect.
- Consuming Alcohol Kills the Corona Virus;
As hand sanitizers that have some Alcohol content in it, can kill the Virus; Why shouldn’t we consume it as the best medicine?
What a Logic behind! The Ultimate foolish remark once told by my friend.
Pity his remark that he has had a poor education else he lacks common sense.
I remember it was during the Nipah period as well, we came across this forwarded spam, it was nothing but drinking alcohol can kill the virus.
It was one Friday when my friend who was not feeling well called up me and asked: “Hey Bro, I am not feeling well, Should I need to consult a Doctor?”. I understood he was a bit anxious about him being vulnerable to Nipah, as we all had a bad habit of reading the symptoms and relating it to our present condition. I replied to him not to be panic and “If you find it urgent to consult a doctor, you should”.
Can you guess what he did? Yes, he hasn’t gone to hospital but a Beer & Wine shop, influenced by the forwarded message.
What should I do for his stupidity? It took about some years for him to accept that “Alcohols weakens our immune system!” from the words of the senior-most scientist of ICMR who replied to his query on this.
- Clapping can destroy the Virus, Burning Diyas burns them all;
What a brainless remark! Yet another hoax.
It was during this COVID period when our PM has addressed the whole nation to take part in the lockdown tasks in two successive weeks. One to Clap and the other to Burn diyas/candles to pay respect to the Health workers of our nation. But it was misinterpreted! A message went viral saying “ The Vibrations produced by clapping together destroy Corona Virus. In some parts of our country, people started gathering together making it a festive mode without maintaining social distance, and for the next task, it was like a Diwali with crackers. Pity!
Proud thing was that there haven’t been any such incidents in Kerala.
- Antibiotics a real cure for COVID;
It was last month, I called up my friend, a business person in Maharashtra to know about whether he is safe or not. As the whole state was under the threat of COVID, this guy was pretty cool talking to me! I felt happy thinking that this person is optimistic about facing this threat period. But he was a little overconfident as I found through words that he even doesn’t care to wear a mask. I wondered how he could be so cool. My curiosity increased, finally, I asked him “What makes you so cool even during this hectic period?”
Can you guess what he replied?
Yes, he told me “ COVID won’t affect me, I used to have Antibiotics!” What Should have I replied?
All I did was sharing with him a link Myth Busters: World Health Organisation
All that we need is to critically approach every information that we get and an urge in us to verify it every then and now in this misinformed world.
